Milele Vs Uliza Kiatu

It is said that”they who can not sing have a keen musical ear” that is how I come in.I do not know how true that is though. All I know is It takes less than a minute to fall in love with a well done song and it takes even shorter to fall off from a chair when bad music plays.

I’m a self proclaimed musical Mutahi Ngunyi and so as I train myself on how to do reviews I will use my ever-growing playlist.I believe there is a silent beauty in every song.Feel free to share songs or albums you love, come to think of it,this is a place you will come back to when you try and explain to your grandchildren what music used to be.

In the local music scene I would do a great injustice if I did not mention Milele by Elani and Uliza Kiatu by H_art the band which were pointed out two me by two lovely friends Areba and Benah respectively. The two songs are a clear depiction of the outcome of great dedication and passion, how else would such perfection be achieved?

Milele by Elani

Elani is a band that does conscious urban and funky afro music with a unique African twist

Quick 411 ON THE BAND

  • The band members are Muthoni Kunga(a law student),Wambui Ngugi(an Actuarial science student) and Brayan Chweya(a law student).Impressive right??
  • Elani means light in Giriama.Must say they have been just that in the industry.
  • They released Jana Usiku in september last year-a breathtakingly beautiful funky party song”kama unajipenda mikono juuu………sahau shida kama umesota

The song Milele, reminds me of my Swahili mashairi classes. The song has an unforgettable great Swahili flow. The video was produced by Enos Olik and the subtle, smooth song has a perfect setting.

“Milele is basically a love song about when you find the one you know, that one person who you just feel is the one. Its very different from all the other things we have done i can describe it as beautiful, soulful and the message is just fantastic”Muthoni Kunga

Milele tells a lovely little story of a potentially failed forced marriage that threatens to destroy the life of a young girl; her heart already belongs to a village boy, yet her father wants her married off to their local doctor.

I can not describe it enough…..here’s a you tube link

Uliza Kiatu by H_art the band

What H_art the band eludes is the effect of a great fusion of music, spoken word poetry, comedy, dance and fashion.

Quick 411 ON THE BAND

  • The band members are Mordecai(lead singer) ,Kenchez(guitarist) and Wachira(poet).
  • Mordecai and Wachira have previously been crowned “Slam Africa Kings”
  • Kenchez is a self taught guitarist.

Truth be told, getting info on the band was quite the task all in all the song Uliza Kiatu is indeed a fresh breathe of air.I swear I can almost sing the whole of it,tells you just how many times it has been on replay.

The song is a notably hilarious yet true summary of what a kenyan guy goes through to please his lady.Describing how the shoe suffers in this quest for love,in a bid to provide the best. You know “mwanaume ni effort” and this effort is clearly highlighted in the song.

My favourite part is definately the part where Wachira breaks into a spoken word piece.”niko stuck katikati kama stick ya mshikaki, nampenda huyu mshikaji, but kiatu tu ndio inajua story……

Well,I will not  do injustice to the masterpiece by writing it all here…here’s a youtube link

Glorious Ruins…

By Hillsong live
When the mountains fall
And the tempest roars You are with me
When creation folds
Still my soul will soar on Your mercy

I’ll walk through the fire
With my head lifted high
And my spirit revived in Your story
And I’ll look to the cross
As my failure is lost
In the light of Your glorious grace

Let the ruins come to life
In the beauty of Your Name
Rising up from the ashes
God forever You reign

And my soul will find refuge
In the shadow of Your wings
I will love You forever
And forever I’ll sing

When the world caves in
Still my hope will cling to Your promise
Where my courage ends
Let my heart find strength in Your presence
